At the center of your tooth is pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Before the root canal is performed, local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, and relaxation medication may be administered to eliminate any discomfort. Then, the injured pulp will be removed, and the canal(s) will be cleaned and sealed. The root canal procedure, which normally is performed in about an hour, eliminates the infection and saves your natural tooth.
The cost associated with this procedure varies depending on which tooth is involved and the severity of damage to the tooth. In general, root canal treatment is much less expensive than tooth removal and replacement with an artificial tooth. If you are experiencing tooth pain, don't suffer another day.
